Conduct in the museum

The Van Gogh Museum is charged with protecting its unique collection of art, and our museum staff is here to ensure every visitor has a pleasant experience. Please respect the following museum rules:

  • Touching the works of art is strictly forbidden.
  • Eating and drinking is only permitted in the museum café.
  • Running and shouting are not permitted.
  • Groups may be asked not to sit on the floor when the museum is busy.
  • Should any visitor break these rules, the Van Gogh Museum reserves the right to ask that visitor to leave.

Cloakroom

Large bags, backpacks, umbrellas and other oversized objects are not permitted in the museum. You can find a luggage storage at the Museumplein Q-Park garage.

Secured cages for coats and bags are available for school groups, and may only be unlocked by you or one of our museum educators.

Accessibility

The entire museum is accessible to wheelchair users. Free wheelchairs are available at the museum entrance.

Payment options and terms & conditions

Schools from outside of the Netherlands are required to pay online at the time of reservation. Dutch schools pay by invoice following the visit.

If you would like to pay using a Cultuurkaart, please enter the number on your school’s card when making the reservation (Dutch secondary schools only). We will create a web order in the month after your visit.
