Brothers
Vincent had a special realtionship with his younger brother Theo. Among many things, they shared a love for art.
I’m Willem van Gogh, family of Vincent and Theo. Theo was married to Johanna van Gogh-Bonger and in 1890, they gave birth to a son called Vincent Willem. In 1962, he founded the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, which assumed responsibility for all the works in the family collection.
And in 1973, this collection was placed on permanent loan to the Van Gogh Museum. It’s thanks to Theo’s son – my grandfather – that Vincent’s works are now on display at the museum.
I was named after my grandfather, and I now work as an ambassador for the museum. I also have several nieces and nephews, who also descend from Theo. I’m pleased to say that they are also actively involved with the museum’s collection.
