Vive l'impressionnisme! Masterpieces from Dutch Collections
From 11 October 2024 to 26 January 2025
To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Impressionism, the Van Gogh Museum is presenting a major autumn retrospective of French masterpieces from Dutch collections. Discover the work of celebrated Impressionists from Claude Monet and Edgar Degas to Auguste Rodin and Camille Pissarro.
'From an early age, I was swept away by the magic of the Impressionists and their vision of themselves as “painters of modern life”. They achieved this by turning their gaze towards the privileged lives led by their own class: the prosperous citizens who made modern Paris and the surrounding countryside their own – a playground for grown-ups.'
'We see them promenading in natural settings and on the boulevards of what was then the world’s capital, dressed in the latest fashions as they while away their newly acquired leisure time. These artists capture the sparkle of all of these phenomena, something that was unheard of at the time.'
