The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam proudly presents Van Gogh along the Seine. One of the highlights of this new exhibition is Vincent van Gogh’s Fishing in Spring, the Pont de Clichy (Asnières) (1887). The painting from The Art Institute of Chicago was today put on display alongside two other works, temporarily reuniting what was once a triptych.
From early May until the end of June 1887, Vincent van Gogh worked in and around Asnières, a suburb to the north-west of Paris. He made some forty paintings in the area. The artistic highlight of Van Gogh’s time in Asnières are the three triptychs that he made there: nine paintings in total. This was a unique artistic project.
Over the years, the paintings became scattered around various private and museum collections all around the world. Seven of the nine works are reunited in the exhibition. This is this first time that the paintings are being displayed in this composition.
Van Gogh along the Seine opens at the Van Gogh Museum on 13 October 2023.
