As a result of the measures introduced by the Dutch government to reduce the spread of coronavirus, the Van Gogh Museum was only able to welcome 516,990 visitors in 2020.
And yet the museum reflects on moments of relief, with exhibitions such as In the Picture and ‘Your loving Vincent’: Van Gogh’s Greatest Letters, which were popular with both Dutch and international visitors.
Despite the museum being forced to close its doors to the public on three occasions, millions of fans all around the world were still inspired and comforted by the life and work of Vincent van Gogh through our online channels. In this challenging year, the Van Gogh Museum was once again able to count on the support of existing partners, and also entered into new partnerships.
This year, Emilie Gordenker was appointed as Director, and the museum said farewell to Managing Director Adriaan Dönszelmann.
