These ‘Oscars of the Internet’ were awarded for the twenty-fifth time on the evening of Tuesday 18 May 2021 during the annual Webby Awards. The website was chosen as the winner in the category ‘Website and Mobile Site l Cultural Institutions’ by both the jury and the public.
Webby Awards
The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences ‘honouring the Best of the Internet’. This is not the first time the Van Gogh Museum has received a Webby – in 2019 the museum was awarded the People’s Voice Webby for the Unravel Van Gogh app.
GLAMi Award
In April this year, the Van Gogh Museum website won the bronze award in the GLAMi Awards 2021’s Design category at the annual international conference MuseWeb about digital applications in museums, galleries, libraries and archives.
Renewed website
The Van Gogh Museum’s digital team renewed the museum’s website in July 2020 in collaboration with tech agency Q42 (development) and digital agency Dept (concept and design). Martijn Pronk, Head of Digital Communication at the Van Gogh Museum, is pleased with the recognition: ‘This is a fantastic achievement of the teams at Q42, Dept and the Van Gogh Museum. Not one but two Webbys! As Vincent van Gogh wrote in 1878, “That which is done with love is well done”.’
