The mobile app enables Van Gogh fans all around the world to follow in the footsteps of the famous painter. The launch was performed by Janne Heling, Chair of the Vincent van Gogh Foundation.
The Van Gogh Europe Route app offers an enjoyable introduction to Vincent van Gogh’s many travels through Europe. Historical photographs, paintings, drawings, detailed maps and practical background information are used to help users discover the places in the Netherlands, England, Belgium and France where Van Gogh lived and worked.
There are six different routes to choose from. Recited quotes from letters, soundscapes and corresponding music all combine to create a sensory experience. Visitors to the congress were invited to use a QR code to be some of the first to see the app on their mobile devices.
During the first Van Gogh Europe conference, representatives of European Van Gogh heritage locations shared their knowledge about the management and preservation of special places. The conference was created in collaboration with the province of Drenthe. The location Emmen was chosen because of the exhibition Travelling with Vincent. Van Gogh in Drenthe that is currently on display at the Drents Museum.
The Van Gogh Europe Route app is available for free via the Van Gogh Europe website, in Dutch, French and English. The app was developed by Tapart, thanks to the generous support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Paris and the Vincent van Gogh Foundation. The Van Gogh Europe Route app is based on The Vincent van Gogh Atlas, published by Rubenstein/Van Gogh Museum.
The Van Gogh Europe Foundation is a network of collaborating European locations and collections associated with Vincent van Gogh’s life and work. It aims to make Van Gogh’s cultural heritage accessible to a wide audience, in order to inspire, unite and engage current and future generations.
