This fourth consecutive edition of the annual event once again allowed elderly visitors to experience Vincent van Gogh’s art at their own pace. Connection Day guests and their carers received a guided tour of the second anniversary exhibition Van Gogh in Auvers. His Final Months, which Hyundai also supported as exhibition partner.
Hyundai and the Van Gogh Museum Treat Elderly Visitors to Special Trip to Anniversary Exhibition
As part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum, Hyundai and the museum recently organised a special edition of the Connection Day.
Connection Day
As the Van Gogh Museum’s partner in mobility, Hyundai is dedicated to bringing the world of Vincent van Gogh into the lives of people who often have difficultly experiencing a museum independently. The celebratory edition of the Connection Day on 19 June was focused on Van Gogh in Auvers. His Final Months, the acclaimed retrospective exploring the short yet crucial last phase in Van Gogh’s artistic development. This exhibition is on display at the museum until 3 September.
Ms Diny Verdonk (86) came especially to see the exhibition. ‘After a period of rehabilitation, this is my first trip by myself for a long time. It’s nice to have the company of contemporaries, and everyone has made me feel very welcome’.
Ms Conny van Dooren (73) came with her friend Elly Wanrooij (73). Once colleagues at the library, and now friends for nearly 35 years. Van Dooren: ‘This is my first visit to the Van Gogh Museum and as a Van Gogh fan, I couldn’t wait to come!’. Wanrooij: ‘The combination of the introductory talk with refreshments, followed by the guided tour, makes it a truly special day out’.
Programmes for the elderly
For several years and counting, the Van Gogh Museum has been organising special days for elderly visitors who are unable to come to the museum on their own. On 18 September, 9 October, 6 November and 27 November 2023, elderly (70+) visitors and their carers are invited to join a programme inspired by the Van Gogh Museum’s permanent collection. Participants have the opportunity to (re)discover the life and work of Vincent van Gogh, under supervision and at their leisure.
