Never been on a skateboard, and not planning on doing so any time soon? No worries! The Skateroom’s art skateboards are meant to go on your wall.
Persistence, believing in someone and helping to provide what they do not have: these are the convictions that unite the Van Gogh Museum and The Skateroom.
Shared convictions
Just like Theo supported Vincent, The Skateroom supports non-profit skate organisations all around the world. Thanks to Theo, Vincent had the means to develop as an artist and follow his dream. Despite the support that Vincent received from his younger brother, he still had to work very hard. He persevered and never stopped believing in himself, despite countless setbacks. But without his brother’s help, he would never have succeeded.
The Skateroom also helps those in need. As a socio-economic business, The Skateroom makes skateboards with a mission: Art for Social Impact. A percentage of the revenue generated by the skateboards is donated to good causes, using the 5:25 method. The Skateroom donates either 5% of the turnover or 25% of the profit, whichever is higher. The organisation primarily supports non-profit skateboard projects that inspire at-risk youth to focus on their personal development. Just like Theo was there for Vincent.
Empowering risk-youth with Skateistan
To date, The Skateroom has donated more than $ 500,000 to various skate projects. Part of the sales of the collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum and The Skateroom contributes to a project of Skateistan. This is an award-winning non-profit organisation.
With its 'Skate and Create' programme, Skateistan connects skateboarding and education. The programme offers children and young adults a safe community. Skateboard lessons help participants to grow self-confidence, allow them to experience freedom and learn positive life skills. The contribution from The Skateroom x Van Gogh Museum collection will be invested in a new programme to help children in South Africa.
Fair trade
The Skateroom skateboards are produced in accordance with fair trade standards, and are only made from certified Canadian maple wood.
Sales
The collection is available through the Van Gogh Museum webshop and in The Skateroom online shop. Your purchase not only supports the work of The Skateroom, but also the Van Gogh Museum and its efforts to preserve Vincent’s precious paintings for future generations.
