The largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings, drawings and letters
The Van Gogh museum houses the largest collection of paintings, drawings, and letters by Vincent van Gogh. The museum also keeps the collection of art by contemporaries that Vincent assembled together with his brother Theo. Thanks to the brothers' family the entire collection stayed together.
The story of Van Gogh's art is told throughout the galleries. Varying themes dive into important aspects of his life and work, such as Van Gogh's ambition to paint farmers, his search for colour and his personal interpretation of nature. You'll also learn more about the art of his time and his artist friends, including Paul Gauguin and Emile Bernard.
Inspiring the world
The huge impact of Van Gogh on the first generation of artists after his death is shown by expressive works such as those by Maurice de Vlaminck and Kees van Dongen from the museum's collection.
Van Gogh's hope that his art might go on inspiring the world after his death has come true: until this very day he reaches out to millions of admirers.
